A Crêpe Farewell

One of my favourite Toronto lunch cafés is Crêpes à GoGo.

It's a small family-run crêperie in Yorkville (they also have a downtown location just West of the ROM). Sara and Yasin are sadly heading back to uni in a couple of days so we thought a proper sisterly outing was in order beforehand.

Maybe it was just our excuse to get crêpes...

To start off I always get Limonana. It's an all natural mint and lemon beverage which is divine served hot, cold, or anywhere in between. It's made by Crêpes à GoGo so you can get it at either of the locations, but I also like to pick up a bottle from time to time at Pusateri's (I've only bought it at the Yorkville location so not sure if they carry it at their other locations).

But the real star of the meal is always the crêpes. I started off with the Côte d'Azur, a crêpe filled with goat cheese, tomatoes, and basil, and a drizzle of olive oil--deeeeelish!

These pics do not to do it justice!

Buuuuut, at Crêpes à GoGo you can't just have one crêpe...afterall, sweet and savoury were meant to be eaten together. So, Sara and I split a Tartinade to finish up. It's filled with tartinade (a homemade version of Nutella) and strawberries (you can also get banana). Pick up a jar of tartinade on the way out, that way you can eat guilt-free (kinda...) nutella aaaallll day long!

So to say goodbye to my nearest and dearest, crêpes it was! Hopefully the silver lining will be that they take the cold with them....please?

Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken

No matter how healthy you promise to be this new year, desperate times call for desperate measures. It's been -20°C (or colder!) these past couple days, which means -4°F for my friends across the border or the temperature at which if your hair is even a little damp when you step outside you end up looking like jack frost with icicles sticking out from your head...not a pretty sight.

The only thing to do is fill yourself with warm comfort food...just in case hibernation is the only option.

Prosciutto wrapped chicken (stuffed with brie and apples) is the perfect cheesy, crispy, smoky foodgasm to remind you that there is hope at the end of the snowstorm tunnel.

I served to 6 but for about 3 people you'll need:

1 sizeable chicken breast (slice it into three pieces)--or 2 smaller ones
8 pieces of prosciutto (less if you want a thinner wrap)
A chunk of brie (a little smaller than your palm)
Half an apple

Each piece of chicken breast was sliced through the middle, filled with brie and a couple of apple pieces, folded together, topped with about two pieces of apple, and then wrapped in prosciutto.

Cook at 375 for about 30 minutes and baste every once in a while to keep the chicken from drying out.

For those of you that are stronger than me...you can serve it alongside a fresh, crisp salad. I made one of mixed greens, orange slices, green apple, and a citrus vinaigrette.

To make the vinaigrette, mix some freshly squeezed  orange juice, olive oil, a couple drops of lemon juice (or squeeze some fresh lemon juice if you have it), a splodge of mustard, and a good pinch of salt.

Me, I'll stick with this baby and my fingerling potatoes....I mean, weren't resolutions made for breaking?

Winter Wear

Nothing says winter like a good oversized sweater. Not only are they super warm and comfy but they look great with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings.

Here are some of my favourites at the moment...

For the Plain Jane

On the left, Aritzia Lenox Sweater-cashmere and angora...can I just curl up into this right now?
On the right, Zara Sweater--it doesn't look as gritty (technical term?) in person and is so comfy

For the Fancy Nancy

I love both of these! Perfect to add a bit of pop to your layers

On the left, Miss Selfridge Bow Jacquard Fluffy Jumper
On the right, Topshop Drench Cable Knit--so lovely with some black booties and a dark red lip for a chilly night out with the girls

Enjoy!

Mo-rockin MoRoCo

Seems like December was nothing compared to the -20°C days we've been waking up to in Toronto. But, that's no reason to sit at home swaddled in your *ahem* Doctor Who blanket all day...So, I swaddled up and shipped out to Yorkville with Sara. You can also thank her for the *punny post title.

We stayed toasty (with the help of some decadent chocolate fondue) at MoRoCo Chocolat. I've been meaning to try this place for months and finally made my way down there today...even if I lost a couple of toes in the process.

We each started off with one of their numerous teas. I went for the Roobios Vanilla and Sara with the Lichee Congou--they also have a Chocolate Reserve Collection of teas which we'll definitely be trying next time!

Sara looking much cuter than me sipping tea...

I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartare and Sara got the Steak Sandwich--we shared the two and were so impressed! Honestly, some of the best lunch we've ever had around Toronto.

We finished off with some delicious chocolate fondue. The dipping assortment was alright (the marshmallows and grapes weren't our favourites), just a little too sweet when dipped in the milk chocolate.

Before you enter the restaurant there's a little sweet shop which makes it impossible to leave without buying a couple of macaroons for the road...we tried to resist! The lavender ones were heaven on earth.

So yummy, so naughty, so worth it.

Resolutions

Every year I tell myself I'm going to keep my weight loss resolutions, but somehow by mid-January they always end up in my rubbish bin. Soooo here's a couple of tips to keep in mind when crafting your yearly promises...

1. Don't set an unreachable goal

Instead of resolving to lose 10 pounds, resolve to get (and use!) a membership to a new gym you've been hearing about for weeks or sign up for a hot yoga class with a couple of the usual fellow resolution-breakers

2. Invest in your resolutions

It's proven that you're more likely to complete a goal if you spend money on it first. So put your money where your mouth is and check these leggings, tank, and jacket for a bit of motivation. If you're in to dance classes, I've heard these new Nike dance flats are amazing!

3. Buddy Up

Make a plan to workout with a friend so that you can motivate each other--that way you won't just be letting yourself down when you feel like cancelling for a bag of chips

Good luck with all your resolutions!
